Reese Massey is an accomplished vocalist that has made the most of her time since she arrived at Berklee in the fall of 2016. She started taking private voice lessons when she was very young and continued with these until high school. Additionally, she took piano lessons in middle school which inspired her to learn many songs by ear and accompany herself in a variety of shows and venues such as the Voodoo Lounge at the House of Blues and Don't Tell Mama, both restaurants in her home city of Los Angeles. Despite her love of performing solo, Reese has always enjoyed singing and harmonizing with others above all else. As such, she joined all the vocal groups available to her during grade school which further strengthened her musicianship and fostered her love of singing in groups. All throughout middle and high school she participated in choirs and a cappella groups where she often took on the role of section leader and helped to direct the choir when the teacher was absent. This sparked her interest in teaching and fostering an appreciation of choral music in other. Reese Massey declared music education as her major at the Berklee College of Music in her second semester, but she has long had a passion for teaching and sharing the joy of music with others. This passion has facilitated her dedication to developing the skills she'll need as a music educator both in her classes and with outside projects since she's arrived at Berklee.
While her main experience prior to Berklee involved solo performances and traditional choirs, Reese has started to participate in a wider variety of projects since enrolling at Berklee. From becoming a go-to vocalist for fellow student's personal and school related projects to being a member of the small vocal jazz group Point of Departure, Reese has tried to take part in a multitude of opportunities so that she can get the most diverse experience possible while at Berklee. She has also been able to perform outside of school by professionally caroling all throughout the holiday season with the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District and being featured on a fellow student's professionally released original album, Momentum. In addition to participating in many projects, she has also taken on a leadership role in multiple student run clubs. Reese is now the assistant music director of PXL8, a video game a cappella group that arranges and performs songs from video games. As assistant music director, she helps decide the repertoire for the group, leads warmups and assists in teaching pieces, occasionally writes arrangements for the group. The Underground Choir, a student run choir that records student original compositions, is another group where Reese has been able to showcase her leadership skills. In the choir's first semester she acted as alto section leader and she now functions as the group's librarian where she organizes and prints all the music and documents club decisions as well as member attendance. These leadership experiences have helped to build her confidence as well as hone her musicianship and teaching skills in order to one day reach her dream of becoming a music educator.
